Okagamimochi (New Year rice cake) is a traditional Japanese New Year decoration. It usually consists of two round mochi (rice cakes), the smaller placed on top of the larger. Mochi has been considered a sacred food since ancient times because rice cultivation was indispensable for Japanese.
